Sports

Sports fans won’t have any complaints when moving to London! With 3 local sports franchises operating from this city, there is year-round action to take in.

Hockey

The London Knights are the pride of this city! Playing out of the Budweiser Gardens the Knights have dominated the Ontario Hockey League in recent years.

Since 1965, many young Londoners first introduction to live sports entertainment was going to a Knight’s game.

This is hockey at its finest and many of the Knights players go on to NHL stardom.

Basketball

Since 2011 Budweiser Gardens has been home to the London Lightning, the local Canadian Professional Basketball team.

The Lightning was instrumental in the success of the league, which also debuted in 2011 and since then have won 3 championships.

Baseball

On the west banks of the Thames River, just opposite Harris Park is Labatt Memorial Park. This park is home to the London Majors and while the baseball is great, the baseball diamond itself steals the show.

Labatt Memorial Park hosted its first baseball game in May of 1877 and hasn’t missed a season since.

Proclaiming itself Canada’s Favorite Ballpark, Labatt has been graced by notable celebrities including Mooney Gibson, Satchel Paige, Ferguson Jenkins, Lester B. Pearson and Wayne Gretzky.

Outdoors Activities

Since its settlement, London has been referred to as the Forest City. And while this was more of a direction than a moniker, London was surrounded by thick virgin forest, it has become a point of pride for many residents.

We like to think of ourselves as inherently outdoorsy people. Perhaps this is why London has developed a remarkable network of Hiking, biking and walking trails that can be used to traverse the city and disappear into the surrounding wilderness.

Thames Valley Trail

The Thames Valley Trail is a 110 Km hiking trail that winds its way through London along the banks of the Thames River. Long stretches of the trail have been made double-wide and paved making them more accessible.

Fanshawe Conservation Area

The Fanshawe Conservation area is only about five minutes from London but feels like it’s worlds away. More than 20 Km of rugged hiking and mountain biking trails make their way along the perimeter of Fanshawe Lake.

Fanshawe also offers camping and boat launches.
